What’s the best way to learn about the history of your block?
Ask a neighbor!

"We were here way before everyone else."

"He used to watch out for my pops in grade school."

"There's a neighborhood submarine on Murray Street...and you can ride in it!!"

"The magic corner of Free Things on Marshall & 59th Street."

From some of the more than 200 stories we’ve gathered from North Oakland neighbors at the library, potlucks, block parties and workshops.  Over the coming months, we’ll be part of story-share gatherings with neighbor groups.  We’ll post some of the collected stories here and at the Golden Gate Library. Special collection boxes, made from repurposed library furniture, will rotate throughout the community.  You can always find a memory collection box at the Golden Gate Library, 5606 San Pablo Avenue.

What's your story? Grab a card, share your memory, talk to your neighbor, & return it to the archive....Make history!
