FREEDOM FARMERS MARKET!
The Freedom Farmers Market , a multicultural marketplace happens every Saturday in North Oakland’s Temescal neighborhood in the historic Kasper’s plaza. They’re dedicated to working with local Black farmers and underserved sustainable farmers to provide the community with affordable organic produce. Their mission is to “bring traditional legacy foods from Black farmers and engage a community vibe of self-reliance, cooperative community development, and healthy sustainable environments for all.”
The HEAR HERE Community Billboard will be showcasing clips from their ground-breaking documentary, ‘Rhythms of the Land’. Filmmaker Dr. Gail Peters describes it as a ‘valentine to generations of black farmers in the United States from the enslavement period to the present, whose intense love of the land and dedication to community enabled them to survive against overwhelming odds.”
