Marshall Street Block Party

More than 40 neighbors gathered on a quiet section of Marshall Street! This was the first time they all got together since their last block party in August, 2022.  Conversations bubbled up among folks who haven’t connected in a long time---sharing recipes for yummy treats shared in the bountiful buffet, strategies for training puppies, thoughts around Oakland schools, and overall community safety.

Scott, a relatively new neighbor, organized this gathering and is also leading the way for monthly neighbor meetings. He’s committed to building trust and cohesiveness on this block. Scott wants to provide ways for neighbors to connect---many who still don’t know each other. He wants everyone to begin the process of "dreaming" together about their neighborhood. As a conversation starter, the Community Billboard featured a slideshow of historic neighborhood photos.  Scott reflected that the photos “instilled a sense that we are living in a dynamic time, in the middle of history.”
